Cogan was a child. You can tell by his answer. Much like Obama on the economy. " I didn't do anything wrong. "
i still don't understand why they let photographers and officials stand in that area between the track and pit road....i don't know how no one hasn't been killed yet....
How did Bobby Rahal got involve in this wreck, all I know it was Foyt, Cogan, Andretti, Dale Whittington and Roger Mears.
wow lots of big names
Chip Ganassi better be glad he didn't start that yard sell!
Wow! 80's Flashback. Actual Americans in the field! Love the graphics and music. 130 looks like pace car speeds in comparison to 230s. Nice they actually waited (or tried to) until the entire field was on the front straight. That was a different era in American Open Wheel.
AJ was the best
@biggpapi09 Well, 46 actually.
@luridplanet Eh, surely Mario calmed down later and realized it wasn't Cogan's fault (at least not intentionally.) That could have happened to anybody. He was just angry that he wasn't going to get a chance to run and his temper was saying stuff his mind didn't really mean.
@MeMeMeMeMeMeMeMeAndU To be fair the commentators never outright blamed Cogan. They said it looked as if he turned the wheel intentionally, but the way they said it and the manner of how they explained afterward was to say that that wasn't what happened, it just appeared that way.
I do agree that Foyt and Andretti were way out of line, and I hope they calmed down later and apologized to Cogan since you can't help mechanical errors of that sort whether you're a rookie or a senior.
@gamrguy101 Not sure Dennis Firestone is part of THAT Firestone family. He's from Australia
At 3.57 Rick Mears car vers to the right!
I was watching this back in 82 when it happen and after watching it again, I still think Cogan was messing with something in the cockpit or looking at the stands and out of the corner of his eye, he saw Rick Mears slowly vering towards him and he overreacted. watch it again, Mears actually unintentionally started this thing, still Cogans fault.
im sure back then no one knew that 20 years later chip ganassi would be such a succesful owner. and dennis firestone would be the best name in indycar racing today. back then they used goodyear... i think
Mario didn't like Kevin Cogan very much after this heheh
@neiana The phrase was indeed used correctly. He used those words to try and implicate that one driver INTENTIONALLY had driven into another.
@MeMeMeMeMeMeMeMeAndU The phrase was used correctly. Any implied meaning of intent comes from a misunderstanding of natural English.
@neiana Seems you don't understand the implication of someone saying "It's as if HE DELIBERATELY turned the wheel"
@MeMeMeMeMeMeMeMeAndU Seems like you don't understand the meaning of 'it's as if'.
What is the name of the song in the background when they show the starting grid?
lol Recalling a line from a classic Bob & Tom song. "Nobody was sure what the yellow flag was for but some guy who had Kevin Cogan in the office pool was taking his and the Lords name in vain"
I was 13 when I watched this with my family and wow, did it create lots of laughs while they were cleaning up the mess.
@tonip420I was 10 years old...beg my mom to watch the race that night on tape delay. The buildup was HUGE..it was the biggest race ever at that time.I never saw anything like it! I was hooked..the next day at school myself and these other 2 kids .thats all we talked about... At that point the guy that finished second..Rick mears because my favorite race car driver...Until..I discovered...Ayrton Senna..I never got to see meet Ayrton Senna. I will not make that mistake with Mears.
@manthing43
if what you are saying is true (which I can't contest), yeah, that wouldn't be his fault then unless he turned into A.J. - it's just bad luck and the only person who really knows what happened is Cogan; A.J. and Mario just were caught in the spots and they are mad about that
@ratzinator1 It's not here in this particular video but somewhere there's a frontstretch camera video & you get a halfway decent view of the cockpits and you could see Kevin w/ both hands on the wheel turning it the opposite direction the car is going before he hits Foyt. Leads me to believe something broke on his car like he said.
